There's no other way to say this without sounding kind of dorky. But truly, live radio is a crap shoot; you never know what you're going to get. When a less than complimentary caller gave his not-very-best to Lewis Black, Lewis Black gave his best, right back. This has been passed around a bit — and in video, because you can really see the wheels turning. A great radio — now video — moment.
Thats amazing. You can totally see how ticked he is.
A great response to an unprepared caller. I do agree completely that one can't criticize someone or something without being familiar with it.
"Can't find the traction to be funny." Great phrasing. It's always a treat to listen into the minds of great humorists and how they think. And it's even more fun to watch Black's finger-gyrations as he goes at it. Thanks! (p.s. where's the laugh track coming from?)

I only agree with the caller on one thing: some times lewis's work is insulting ... to stuff that warrants being insulted.
What does he mean by militant? I don't get it.
The caller could only criticize Black in general, but could not point to a single specific part of his work to justify the criticism. I think what the caller actually meant was that he disagrees with Black's point of view, but can't think of a logical rebuttal, and it makes him feel degraded. Far from "degrading the culture," Black challenges society to think like rational adults.
The people laughing were the studio crew, if I'm not mistaken.
Lewis Black is great. His strategy, if not his delivery, of responding to such sentiment is something I wish more people would employ. To wit: if you're going to make a claim, have some evidence to back it up with.

Questioning the war earned you the coveted tag of unpatriotic and questioning Israel's tactics against the Palestinians often earns you the tag of anti-semite. Both are designed to try and get you to shut up without rebutting your valid argument - this is largely the same.
Lewis Black is one of the best comedians! I just saw him on July 19th at the Mohegan Sun casino. Lewis is totally great when it comes to unprepared comebacks and situations!
