Tell Me More

'Best Believe This...'

OK, so we need to add a note about our January 26 blog entry "What's in a Name?" We've learned that if there's a prize (dinner on me!), then, technically, we should clarify some "rules." Who knew? So, here goes:

- Don't forget to include your name and e-mail address (one that you actually check routinely) when posting your suggestion so we can contact you if we select your program title suggestion!
- If more than one of you suggests the "winning" program name, you're both (or all) invited to dinner in Washington, D.C. And, I promise, no fast food. That would just be wrong! Remember that if you suggest the winning program title, you will need to get yourself to Washington, D.C., for dinner. We will schedule dinner for a date that works for both of us; please give us plenty of time to plan.
- Understand that we may not choose any of the suggestions for our program title. In that case, we won't take anyone to dinner.
- We're excited to have a broad audience, but if you're under 18, you'll need to get permission from your mom, dad and/or legal guardian before sending us a suggested program title. (Adults, you might also wish to check with your spouse... j/k)
- Each person who submits a program title suggestion consents to the use of his or her suggested program title, name, photo and/or likeness by NPR, over the air, on the NPR Web site, and in all media and manner, now or hereafter known, throughout the world, in perpetuity, without compensation.

Whew... Now we hope our lawyers are happy. Let the posts resume! The suggestions have been great - even a bit entertaining. (Hence, the title of this entry...) We're closing the door, though, on Friday, Feb. 16, 2007 at midnight Pacific Standard Time. So, hurry. Best believe this...

2. What Do You Know?
3. Mind Over Matter.
4. Break Away.

I have a suggestion:

"Chimera Scope"

Chimera, meaning "a mythological, fire-breathing monster, commonly represented with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail.
2. any similarly grotesque monster having disparate parts, esp. as depicted in decorative art.
3. a horrible or unreal creature of the imagination"

Add "Scope" to indicate that this show will look at the complex, or what others might see as horrible or unusual, in a closer, unflinching way.

My Suggestions for the new program are:

1. Matter of Fact
- not 'assumptions' but 'facts'
- 'Unexpected' facts
- 'Diverse' facts
- 'Challenging' facts
- 'as a matter of fact' people think . . .

2. Nitty - Gritty
- a program that gets down to the realities or basics of a matter

3. Brass Tacks

- reasoning as above

4. Backbone

- A program with some guts that is not afraid to deal with the unexpected and unconventional.

5. A Maze Thing (Amazing)or a variation of this

- A complex network of paths, issues, voices

How about a show about privacy, or the lack thereof? I suggest from the topic not from a governmental perspective, but a commerce perspective.

Might as well add my first born to my "name, photo and/or likeness...in all media and manner, now or hereafter known, throughout the world, in perpetuity, without compensation.

Still like "Honey we need to talk" or variation. Still not interested in adding my personal info. Any hey, it is free - no dinner necessary.

"Martin's Cafe" is the perfect name. Within the sensibilities of a "cafe" nothing is assumed. Looking at the description of the up-and-coming show, I thought using the old clich?? (yes, bad start, I know) of a 'melting pot' would be some sort of the right direction. This would speak to the 'perspectives on life in multicultural America.'
