Telling You More ... From Wishbone

Lee, here ...

I'm here blogging from Wishbone restaurant in Chicago, where Tell Me More is broadcasting live from the popular dining spot in the city's West Loop.

We're serving up a few tasty conversations today. From tuning in (or logging on here), you'll hear perspectives from Chicago businesswoman and Barack Obama campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett; Al Walavich, Lauren Fischer and Harold Lucas, all community voices who will talk about the unique cultural dynamics of this city; magazine editors Dawn Baskerville and Roy Johnson, will share what is gracing the pages of their latest magazines, Essence and Men's Fitness; and from Tania Urzerta, who is making big waves here in local Latino community radio.

Also, the Wishbone staff has been more than helpful. We showed up on their doorstep this morning before sunrise to set up shop here. There were nothing but smiles to greet us (after they turned on the lights), so I just want to give some virtual dap to Carlos Ewing, Vicente Salgado, Lupe Munoz, Nadri Ayyen, Monica Goston, Misty Saint and Araceli Ariza. They've certainly earned their spot as part of our extended family. (Not to mention the fact the food here is, shall we say, slammin').

That's all for now... You can meet Michel Martin back here later, after the program.

I am crushed! I wish I would have known that you were going to do a live broadcast here in Chicago. TMM is my favorite NPR show and I would have definitely come to Wishbone to say hello. Will you be back tomorrow?

Michel Martin,

Your broadcast from Chicago, at the Wishbone Restaurant, was just GREAT !
Being from Chicago, now living on the West Coast, & having not visited Chicago in more than 20 years....well made me homesick!

Know matter where I go, I'm proud to be from the Windy City ( Chicago). In listening to all your segments, made me more aware of just how dynamic Chicago is as a major American city; & just how being from there gave me an foundation & education, at times very painful, that I could not have received in any other city, & I have lived in a few, including New York City, with the borough of Brooklyn being closest to my heart !

I look forward with anticipation to hear what other treats you bring from Chicago to your faithful listeners !

Love the show from your spot in Chicago BUT I have to say, I really thought the barbershop chat about the fight at the woman's basketball game was really sexist and sophomoric. Even Michel's admonishment didn't snap the fella's back from the stone age. Whenever these sorts of conversations take place I ask people to flip the script. For instance would you ever hear folks in this type of forum sayin, "Black folks really play B'Ball hard and you better get out the way!" or "Them Mexican play soccer HARD..." Somehow gender makes it ok.
Shame on you fellas, grow up.
