Sen. Roland Burris, an Illinois Democrat, had an unsettling moment Friday when the Chicago-bound United Airlines flight he was on developed a mechanical problem on take-off.
NPR reporter Audie Cornish reported the following:
According to a spokesman for Burris, the senator heard a loud noise at takeoff followed by shaking and turbulence while on a United Airlines flight to Chicago.
Burris reported that the pilots announced that the plane was experiencing a hydraulic failure
The flight ended up making an emergency landing in Pittsburgh. Emergency vehicles met the plane on the tarmac. No injuries were reported.
The airline put the passengers on another plane to Chicago. Burris, a freshman senator, was chosen to fill President Barack Obama's seat by former Illinois governor Rod Blagoevich.
