There's no shortage of stories this morning about the waning hours for 789 Chrysler dealers, who lose their franchises at the close of business today.

USA TODAY says that as "closing day comes ... Chrysler dealers aren't happy."

The Suncoast News tries to look on the bright side, for consumers at least: "Bargains Abound."

The Christian Science Monitor's Patchwork Nation blog examines "the larger meaning" behind the news. The blog reports that:

We calculated the percentage of dealerships in each community type that are closing. The highest percentages are in the big-city "Industrial Metropolis" and the wealthy, populous "Monied 'Burbs." This suggests that Chrysler believes its future lies outside America's most densely populated areas.
