One of those government programs that goes unnoticed until you absolutely, positively need it is in trouble in California.
As Capital Public Radio's Kelly Weiss reported on Morning Edition today, the state's $24 billion budget gap is likely to force the shutdown or scaling back of many programs.
Among those in danger: The state's Poison Control System, where experts stand by all hours of the day and night to respond to sometimes life-and-death calls.
