As we reported earlier, Clinton arrived in Pyongyang today to see if he can negotiate the release of American journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee.

The Obama administration insists he's there as a private citizen and spokesman Robert Gibbs said earlier that the White House would have no comment about the former president's trip.

You probably don't need this reminder, but it's always important to note that Clinton's wife is Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Update at 10:40 a.m. ET. White House spokesman says no message was sent, the AP reports:

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs is denying that former President Bill Clinton carried a verbal message from President Barack Obama to North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il on a surprise mission to the country.

When asked Tuesday morning about a North Korean state news agency report involving Clinton's meeting with the leader of the Stalinist regime that has imprisoned two U.S. journalists, Gibbs replied, "That's not true."

Update at 9:35 a.m. ET. The Associated Press has posted this report with video of Clinton's arrival in North Korea:
