George W. Bush told the crowd at a motivational event in Fort Worth yesterday that "every single day, I was honored to be your president by bringing honor and dignity to the office," the Star-Telegram reports.

Still, the former president said, "some days were great. ... Some days were not so great."

The Dallas Morning News' Wayne Slater also writes that Bush:

Reminded the motivated that even presidents are a fleeting part of history.
"You're not it," Bush said. "You're part of something greater than yourself."
He added: "Presidents come and go. But the ship of state sails on."

According to the Star-Telegram a spokesman for the "Get Motivated" conference " would not say how much the company pays its speakers, but personal finance disclosure forms filed by Giuliani in 2007 during his presidential campaign showed that he was paid $100,000 per Get Motivated speech in 2006." Former presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan also gave paid speeches at past conferences sponsored by Get Motivated founders Peter and Tamara Lowe, the newspaper adds.

As the Star-Telegram also says, this was Bush's "first foray into motivational speaking."
