Mohammed Zazi, left, father of terrorist suspect Najibullah Zazi, leaves the federal courthouse in Denver with U.S. Marshals on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009.
The father of the Afghan immigrant at the center of a major terrorism investigation was indicted Thursday for lying to federal authorities.
Mohammed Zazi, 53, whose son Najibullah is presently in federal custody, was officially indicted on the same charge that lawmakers used to arrest him last month, lying to federal officials during a terrorism probe. Mohammed was later released on bond.
His son Najibullah has been accused of being a key player in a terrorist plot that intended to attack New York City targets. Officials have said it was the most serious plot they've discovered in the U.S. since 9/11.
Officials have also said other suspects were under surveillance and that they expect to make further arrests. The New York Times has a story on Naiz Khan, a 26-year old Afghan immigrant who lives in the New York City borough of Queens and has been steadily watched by federal agents.
