Al-Qaida Claims Responsibility For Foiled Airline Attack

A group affiliated with al-Qaida claims it planned the foiled attack on a Northwest Airlines jet that was headed for Detroit on Christmas Day. Reporting from Cairo, NPR's Peter Kenyon says it appears to be retaliatory for a Yemeni military attack on Yemeni rebels a few weeks ago:

But NPR's Dina Temple Raston reports the FBI does not believe the alleged attacker, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, had any accomplices, nor have agents found a connection between the Yemeni al-Qaida group and the Nigerian man.
