Iraqi police officials say most of the more than 20 people killed today in a pair of bombings in western Iraq were policemen, the Associated Press reports.
According to the wire service, "staggered explosions killed 23 people — 13 of them policemen — and injured the governor of Anbar."
The attacks happened in Ramadi, which is west of Baghdad. BBC News writes that "the bombers set off the devices after driving into a heavily protected area of the city. One attacker was wearing army uniform, said a report."
CNN is reporting that Anbar Gov. Qassim al-Fahdawi was injured by a blast that went off as he went to the scene of the first explosion. It quotes the Anbar Salvation Council as saying that the bomber who targeted the governor "was one of his bodyguards."
