A sharp increase in energy costs pushed prices at the wholesale level up a steep 1.8% in November from October, the Bureau of Labor Statistics just reported. Energy coasts soared 6.9% — led by a 14.2% increase in gasoline prices.
Even without the energy surge and often-volatile food costs, though, wholesale prices still went up 0.5%.
Over the past year, BLS adds, wholesale prices are up 2.4%.
The bureau is due to report tomorrow morning about what consumer prices did in November.
