Walnut Creek, Calif. has decided to launch an air war against squirrels who are apparently causing a lot of damage there by digging under roads and buildings.

So officials there are trying to attract raptors, specifically hawks, to the area in the hope that they will impose death from above on the troublesome rodents.

Local officials are apparently proud of themselves for using natural methods to deal with the pesky squirrels instead of, say, poisoning them.

We'll have to try and remember to check back in on this story in a few months to see if the raptors work better than the alternative. Having observed the craftiness of squirrels for years, I'm not betting on the hawks just yet.
