Developing: Police In Rural Va. Report Multiple Deaths; Shooter Surrounded

From Appomattox, Va., the Associated Press reports that "a lone shooter was responsible for multiple deaths and injuries Tuesday and more than 100 law enforcement officials had him circled in the woods where they believe he is hiding, state police said."

The local News & Advance says:

Emergency dispatchers received a call around 12:02 p.m. about a man lying in the road who needed medical help. When an officer arrived, he heard shots, officials said.

Around 1:30 p.m., shots were fired at a Virginia State Police helicopter, officials said. The helicopter landed because of a fuel leak.
