There's word from the Associated Press in Port-au-Prince that "U.S. Navy helicopters touched down on the grounds of Haiti's damaged presidential palace on Tuesday bringing reinforcements in the struggle for security and earthquake disaster relief."

Reuters says "a dozen U.S. military helicopters landed ... and began dropping off U.S. troops in full combat gear."

Meanwhile, NPR's Jackie Northam reports from Port-au-Prince that though there are reports of some looting and fighting, the city "is not falling into a ... pit of violence." It's critical, though, that more aid get to the people who need it as quickly as possible, she says:
