It appears chances are good Michael Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, will find himself in a courtroom relatively soon facing at least one criminal charge of involuntary manslaughter for the pop superstar's death.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Associated Press has learned that prosecutors will seek an involuntary manslaughter indictment against Michael Jackson's doctor for the pop star's death.
A law enforcement source says Dr. Conrad Murray will be prosecuted on a theory of gross negligence. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation remains open.
Miranda Sevcik, a spokeswoman in Houston for Murray and his lawyer, Edward Chernoff, said the doctor had no comment and reiterated he neither prescribed nor administered anything that should have killed Michael Jackson.
Murray lived with Jackson and was at the house the superstar rented in Jackson's last hours. An autopsy showed that Jackson received a cocktail of drugs the morning of his death, including propofol, a powerful anesthetic typically used during surgical procedures in medical settings where patients' vital signs can be closely monitored.
Murray told authorities he purchased the propofol which he administered the day Jackson died, according to reports.
