Oh, that crafty Robert Gibbs.
During the Winter Olympics, the White House spokesman made a couple bets with Dimitri Soudas, spokesman for Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper — first, when the U.S. women's hockey team played Canada for the gold and then when the U.S. men's hockey team played Team Canada, also for gold.
As American fans know well, the U.S. teams lost both games.
So, today at his White House briefing with reporters, Gibbs paid off his bets by showing up in a Canadian hockey sweater (puckheads know that they're not called jerseys).
But Gibbs had something literally up both sleeves — a Team USA sweater underneath. Here's AP video of his hockey hijinks:
Our thanks to NPR's Don Gonyea, who watched from the (cheap?) briefing room seats.
