Farokhmanesh's three-point shot knocked Kansas out.

An already "wild and unpredictable" NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament got even wilder and more unpredictable yesterday, as NPR's Tom Goldman says, when guard Ali Farokhmanesh "hit a wide-open, three-point jump shot with 35 second left to give Northern Iowa an insurmountable lead against Kansas."

Kansas, a heavy favorite in the game and the choice of many (including President Barack Obama) to win the whole tournament, went down in defeat, 69-67 — out of the "big dance" after just two games.

In another big upset yesterday, St. Mary's beat Villanova 75-68.

Other highly touted teams that have gone out early include Georgetown, New Mexico, Marquette and Temple. If you can bear to look at how the brackets have been busted, or want to revel in your team's success, click here.

Today, Duke and Syracuse will try to avoid being the next big names to be sent home by upstarts when they play California and Gonzaga, respectively.
