Often when we hear emergency dispatcher recordings, the story is heart-rending. So it's good to hear one with a happy ending.
Alana Sanders went into labor after her husband left for work on March 9 at 1:30 am. So when the baby started to emerge, it was only Sanders and her children, Faith and Jabari, 11 and 9, respectively, who were there to greet him.
The dispatcher talked the children through the situation until the fire department arrived. As you can hear from a recording released Wednesday, the youngsters were uncannily calm during the entire experience.
From an Associated Press story:
Faith said the experience was exciting.
"Usually nothing happens everyday," she said. "It's the
same-old, same-old."
Jabari thought the birth was "cool and weird."
"It's still not real to me that I gave birth to my baby in the
bathroom," Alana Sanders said. "I'm just very grateful that my
kids were there."
