I hate to tell her. And I may sound clueless by admitting this. But until I read in The New York Post this morning that actress Lindsay Lohan is suing E*Trade for $100 million in damages, I hadn't connected her to this talking-babies ad that premiered during the Super Bowl:
Now I have, thanks to Lohan.
Her lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, tells the Post that E*Trade is sending "a subliminal message" about his client, who's had some drug and alcohol issues. And Lohan, or Lindsay, wants the ad off the air and plenty of money to boot.
The Post writes that:
Chris Brown, a spokesman for Grey Group, which produced the spot, is throwing cold milk on the controversy, saying it "just used a popular baby name that happened to be the name of someone on the account team."
According to the Social Security Administration, "Lindsay" was the 46th-most-popular girl's name (0.38% of all girls) in the USA the year Lohan was born (1986). "Lindsey" was No. 39 (0.44%). The top name for a girl that year was "Jessica" (2.85%).
Lindsay's popularity has gone down since then.
In 2008, the most recent year in SSA's records, "Lindsay" was No. 380 (0.041% of all girls) and "Lindsey" was No. 277 (0.059%). The top name for a girl in 2008 was "Emma" (0.9%).
