"The two Northwest pilots who overflew their Minneapolis destination and were out of radio contact for more than an hour last October have agreed to forfeit their pilots licenses," NBC News reports it "has learned."

Capt. Timothy Brian Cheney and First Officer Richard Irwin Cole were supposed to bring Flight 188 from San Diego down in Minneapolis, but ended up more than 100 miles over Wisconsin before they realized their error. In the meantime, controllers couldn't get their attention. There's background on the incident here.

The pilots have claimed they had been working on laptops — supposedly to go over the airline's new scheduling routines — and got distracted.
