Police in Washington Township, N.J., and Wal-Mart officials want to know who got on the public-address system at one of the chain's stores Sunday night to announce that "all back people" needed to leave the store.

It could be a "bias-crime" to do such a thing, the local Courier-Post reports. It also writes that the offensive announcement "could have been made from any of some 25 phones inside the sprawling store, authorities said Wednesday."
An African-American who was in the Washington Township store at the time says in the Inquirer that it took five minutes for store management to get on the p.a. to apologize.
"We waited and waited. Some people just left their carts in disgust and said they couldn't believe it," Victoria Arter tells the Inquirer.
Wal-Mart spokeswoman Ashley Hardie has called the incident "unacceptable."
