Just a few minutes ago, NPR national political correspondent Don Gonyea walked up to my desk, to show me an email message he received from a member of the president's press team at 11:55 a.m. ET.
"The Af/Pak meeting has started," it said.
Now, we don't want to diminish the importance of what will transpire at that planned policy discussion, but we think the time stamp on that message is important.
President Obama was scheduled to meet with his national security team at 11:35 a.m. ET.
When did midfielder Landon Donovan score the game-winning goal in today's World Cup match against Algeria?!
At 11:53 a.m. ET!
Coincidence? We think not. After all, there are plenty of flat-screen televisions in the White House Situation Room. (See above.)
