The White House announced that President Obama plans to deliver a speech about immigration on Thursday, at American University's School of International Service, "on the need to fix our broken immigration system through comprehensive immigration reform."

Should we expect big news? Lots of policy points? A new way forward?

Don't hold your breath, The Washington Post's Anne E. Kornblut says.

According  to officials, the speech "is unlikely to include any new policy initiatives and will not be preceded by an announcement on a Justice Department lawsuit in Arizona," she reports.

Obama has repeatedly called for "comprehensive" immigration reform, although prospects for such legislation, which failed to advance during the Bush administration, appear grim.

Yesterday, in a piece about immigration reform, Erica Werner, a reporter for the Associated Press, said that the White House indicated a future speech — presumably this one — would center on "the importance of passing comprehensive immigration reform."
