Another Mayor Slain In Mexico

For the tenth time this year assassins have killed a mayor in Mexico. Prisciliano Rodriguez Salinas was the mayor of small town outside of Monterrey. He was found gunned down on his ranch yesterday.

Jason Beaubien, NPR's Mexico City Correspondent reports:

The Mexican federal government has been attempting to purge corrupt police in the state and confront the heavily armed drug gangs. In just two recent shootouts in the area, the military killed more than 50 alleged cartel gunmen.

Salinas is the fourth mayor to be killed in the area in just the last two months. The violence has become so bad in Mexico that last week U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton compared it to an insurgency.
