Best Country For Women? Iceland

The Global Gender Gap Report is out today. I know you've been waiting anxiously for this one. The report, by the World Economic Forum, rates the equality between men and women based on salary equality, education, political representation and life expectancy. They've been doing this for five years now, and the trend is very clear. It is best to be a woman, on those criteria at least in Nordic countries, especially Iceland. Norway and Finland come in at 2 and 3, respectively.

Klaus Schwab, the Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, says gender equality is key to a country's economic development. "Low gender gaps are directly correlated with high economic competitiveness. Women and girls must be treated equally if a country is to grow and prosper. We still need a true gender equality revolution, not only to mobilize a major pool of talent both in terms of volume and quality, but also to create a more compassionate value system within all our institutions."

The US jumped to the 19 position this year, the first time we've cracked the top twenty. At the bottom of the list are Pakistan, Chad, and Yemen.
