Our Harry: Actor Daniel Radcliffe at the Nov. 15 premiere in New York.
There's an interesting factoid or two in The Wall Street Journal's story this morning about the big box office take for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, which opened this weekend and sold $125.1 million worth of tickets in the U.S. alone, a Potter franchise record.
The Journal says that according to Warner Bros., when the first Potter movie came out in 2001, "roughly 10 percent of the ... audience was 18-34 year olds." This past weekend, "that age group composed 25% of the audience for Deathly Hallows."
So, author J.K. Rowling's stories — which have tracked the progress of Harry and his wizardly friends from childhood to young adults — have managed to keep many of their fans enchanted as they aged as well.
