Clarification: Mercy Corps Is Non-Political

Yesterday I highlighted the Morning Edition piece by NPR's Robert Smith on Pat Boone's new line of steaks, noting Boone plans to donate 5% of the proceeds to charity. Boone says the money is going to 'good, conservative, traditional causes, mainly feeding the hungry'. In addition to singing gospel, Boone is a Christian conservative activist, who said Mercy Corps is one of the charities he'd like to support. I also featured a photo of Boone, opening a reception for the conservative Beverly Hills Tea Party group.

However, Mercy Corps contacted NPR after the piece aired and requested a clarification: the organization's mission is humanitarian work — it's non-political and remains unaffiliated with any religious group. You can read Mercy Corps' mission statement here and more about its work.
