3 Dead, Several Students Hurt After School Bus Accident In Mississippi

Authorities say an accident in which an 18-wheeler sideswiped a school bus has killed three adults and hurt several students in Calhoun County in rural Mississippi. NPR's Debbie Elliot reports:

A spokesman with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety says the driver of the rig was killed along with two others. Choctaw County school officials confirm two employees were killed in the accident.

The injured teenagers have been taken to hospitals by helicopter and ambulance.

School officials say the two buses were transporting 62 high school seniors back home from a trip to the University of Mississippi in Oxford.

Authorities are looking into the cause of the crash.
