Jobless Claims Drop To Nearly Three-Year Low

The number of Americans who filed first-time claims for unemployment insurance dropped by 36,000 last week from the week before, the Employment and Training Administration just reported.

And at 383,000, the number of claims was the lowest since July 2008, according to the agency's records.

Bloomberg News says the report is a sign of "further strength in the labor market" and that "a slowdown in firings means U.S. companies may begin creating enough jobs to keep unemployment going down."
