Behind The Stories

NPR In the News: 1000 Words Edition

Actually, this posts is nowhere near that long. We just wanted to take a moment to share more good news from NPR's Multimedia Department.

Less than a month after being honored at the White House News Photographers Association's Annual Awards Dinner, the team has received two more prestigious accolades.

LIFE.com just announced the winners of its first annual Photo Blog Awards. Out of nearly 300 blogs considered, NPR's The Picture Show was chosen as one of the 20 winners the site deemed the most compelling photography blogs on the Web. LIFE.com said of NPR's photo blog: "NPR's The Picture Show is like a curious friend with big-time resources. You never know what you're going to find on The Picture Show — and that's meant as the highest compliment." That bit of praise is especially fitting when you consider that the blog's main contributor, Claire O'Neill, came to NPR as an intern and has become a permanent (and now award-winning) part of the staff here.

Also, the work of Multimedia team members David Gilkey and John Poole has been included in Photo District New's 2011 Photo Annual. If you're a professional photographer, this is quite a feather in your cap. The images included in the Annual are selected by a distinguished panel of judges charged with PDN's goal "to produce a gallery that will serve as an inspiration for photo editors, art directors and art buyers, and that brings praise to hard-working artists who deserve to have their work shine." You can view the full Photo Annual at the PDN website.

Congratulations to our Multimedia team and all of those honored by these distinguished competitions.
