The Curious Listener: Calling All Interns

Curious Listener 220 x 220

Everyone has a different passion when it comes to NPR - books, news, social media, Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! A great way to transition that enthusiasm into a job is with a NPR internship. Do you have aspirations of being the next Guy Raz (NPR intern with All Things Considered, circa 1997) or the next blogger on 'This is NPR'? (Yup, I was a Summer 2010 Communications intern). Give today's installment of "The Curious Listener" a read.

The next deadline to apply for an NPR internship is July 27. If you're interested in working alongside NPR hosts, journalists and staff, visit the Internships page on NPR.org to get started on an application. Also, check out what our summer interns are up to right now on their Tumblr page.

To Whom It May Concern:

I want to know how I can become a part of the "What We're Reading" group.

Is there an internship position available? Volunteer position? I take great pleasure in perusing the site and looking at the recommendations/reviews. I would like to be a part of the group that reads the books and then makes wonderful suggestions for readers out there. I am currently a student at San Francisco State University majoring in English Literature and summer is right around the corner. I am going to have some free time on my hands and I would love to contribute in any way that I can.

Thank you for your time. Have a wonderful day.

Sincerely,
Madison

Dear Madison,

Thank you for contacting NPR.

We really appreciate your interest! As it happens, the "What We're Reading" group is an informal collection of what the NPR staff is reading. (Yes, this means our Books colleagues check out what we're reading at lunch; they're quite nice about it, though.) There's no formal "what we're reading" intern position.

However, that doesn't mean you can't check out our internship positions in general! We don't have any open right now, since our summer interns start in a few weeks, but check back in August: http://www.npr.org/about/careers/internships.html

We are always delighted to hear from listeners. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Thank you for listening to NPR, and for your continued support of public broadcasting. For the latest news and information, visit NPR.org.
