One of many stories to get rejected at yesterday's story meeting:

Florida's chief financial officer and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink gave the commencement address at the University of Central Florida last weekend. A great honor, sure, but she repeatedly referred to the school not as UCF but as USF, which happens to be the acronym for its rival, the University of Southern Florida.

The bitter USF-UCF rivalry — and the fact that Sink may believe Central is spelled Scentral — notwithstanding, we threw out the story. If you want to get on the show by simply messing up a letter, you need to do worse, like when Sen. Claire McCaskill tried to tweet about the public option, and forgot an "L." Or when the Guardian tried to write about a beloved public radio program and had to correct it thusly:

This article was amended on Tuesday 20 January 2009. In our entry on Garrison Keillor's Lake Wobegon Days, we referred to a Prairie Ho Companion; we meant a Prairie Home Companion. This has been corrected.

You know, that sort of thing. Get to it, America!
