The 15th annual Latin Alternative Music Conference is underway this week in New York City. Free concerts are held in Manhattan and Brooklyn throughout the festival, while sessions and showcases are available only to registered attendees, who come from all over the Spanish-speaking world to find what's next in Latin music.

World Cafe's Latin Roots correspondent, Josh Norek, happens to be a co-founder of the event, and is here with a special report on the LAMC. He'll discuss its history and showcase some of the acts that have caught his attention in 2014.

Check out more of Josh Norek's picks in a special LAMC Spotify playlist.
