Why does the database display looked clipped?
The JAVA database engine, CatView 1.0, is designed for higher resolution
displays; we can make it fit 640x480 by eliminating some feature buttons from the display.Show

Click on the Index drop-down list and then select the State... category. In the Search box , type oh and press Enter. The stations in Ohio will appear.
What are the state abbreviations?
Scroll though the Filter list. A double click on a word will do the same as if
you typed it into the Search box and pressed the Enter key..
Once I've displayed a search, how do I see the entire list again?
At the top of the Filter box list, look for the all keyword.
Double-click on all and the entire database will be
displayed again.
How am I supposed to navigate around the database display?
You can use the keyboard cursor keys (Page Up and Page Down too), or click
on the database's navigation buttons: to skip to the beginning, go back
one, go ahead one or skip to the end, respectively.
A blue triangle in the left-most grid points to your current
position.
I want to search by city name. What do I do?
Click on the Index drop-down list and select City.
Then type in a city name in the Search box, or select a city name from the Filter box.
So I can search by any category that appears in the Index box?
Yes.
I want to search for a word, but I'm not sure what category to choose.
Type the word in the Search box, and click on the button. The entire
database will be searched for your word, and the results (if any) displayed.
How can I sort the database, and the results of my search?
Click on the and click on the field by which
you want to sort.
I want to grab a bunch of records from the data base. How do I do that?
To select all records displayed, press the button.
To select some records, click on the box between the pointer and the city
name. Then, if you are using
the Microsoft IE 4.0 browser, or the Netscape browser, press the button. A separate browser window will appear with all the information
nicely formatted. At this point you can use your browser's print and file save features.
We tested this feature with IE 4.72.3110.8 and Netscape 4.07.
It doesn't work with my browser. Now what?
Select one
record at a time, and manually copy and paste the text from the 6 line text display above
the database grid using mouse click and drags. This will be tough, as the display will be
clipped on its left side, but all the text is there, you just can't see it. |
