Morning Edition, December 16, 2003 · An Indian immigrant recalls his first restaurant meal in America. A 77-year-old woman tells her daughter how she'd like to be remembered. A mother shares a romantic secret with her son. Those are a few of the stories shared in oral history recordings at the StoryCorps booth in New York City's Grand Central Terminal.
On Morning Edition, NPR's Renee Montagne listens to some samples with David Isay, of Sound Portraits Productions, the project's creator.
"You always think, 'I should interview my grandfather [or my] grandmother but I don't know how to do it or I don't have the right equipment,'" Isay says. "And then the years go by and they pass away and you kind of regret it. This project is about making sure that that doesn't happen anymore."
