Ellsworth Move Gives GOP Another Shot

When Brad Ellsworth won this seat in 2006, ousting Rep. John Hostettler (R) in the process, Democrats said it was a sign that they could win in conservative districts with the right kind of candidate. And had Ellsworth decided to run again, he could very well have won. But he's leaving for a Senate bid, and Republicans are confident they will take back the seat. Larry Bucshon, a cardiologist, narrowly defeated a Tea Party favorite in the GOP primary, while state Rep. Trent Van Haaften was the Democrats' anointed candidate. -Ken Rudin
