Longtime Rep. Pomeroy Under Threat

North Dakota constantly votes Republican for president. But it hasn't elected a Republican to the Senate since 1980 or to the House since 1978 (and that was the same guy, Mark Andrews). But now the trend is going in the opposite direction -- a startling turnaround for nine-term incumbent Earl Pomeroy, who won the seat the last three times with at least 60 percent of the vote. This year, a vacant Senate seat is a lock for the GOP, and Pomeroy is trailing in polls behind state Rep. Rick Berg. -Ken Rudin
