A Battle To Succeed Baird In Washington

Democrat Brian Baird's retirement after six terms gives Republicans a shot at winning this seat. GOP candidate Jaime Herrera is a state representative who once worked for Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R). Denny Heck, a former state representative, was Baird's preferred choice to succeed him. While Heck received the most votes in the Aug. 17 primary, in which all candidates ran on the same ballot, the total GOP vote was 52 percent to the Democrats' 44 percent. -Ken Rudin
