Brownback's Seat Still Safe For GOP

Sam Brownback (R), first elected in 1996, is not seeking re-election and is instead running for governor. In a state that hasn't elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1932, there is no doubt that Brownback's successor will be Rep. Jerry Moran. The only suspense, in fact, was in the Republican primary, when Moran defeated fellow congressman Todd Tiahrt. That race got nasty and personal, but it in no way affects the GOP's chances of holding the seat against the Democratic nominee, Lisa Johnston.
