Burr Has An Edge In Tar Heel State

Richard Burr (R), first elected in 2004, is seeking a second term. Burr has never solidified his hold on this seat, which he took six years ago when John Edwards (D) left to pursue the presidency. For that reason, Democrats have long listed this race as a potential upset. Perhaps -- but not in a year when the Obama brand is weak and when many candidates are favored simply because they have an "R" after their name. The Democratic nominee is Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, a veteran of statewide contests who trails Burr by a wide margin in money raised. -Ken Rudin
