ListServes of Interest

What is a ListServe? A ListServe is a mechanism where 'subscribers' can send and receive e-mail to each other. Typically, a particular ListServe exisits to serve the common interest of its subscribers, and the subscribers freely share their experiences, knowledge and insights to any topic. Indeed, for a Listserve to be useful at all depends on the participation of all its subscribers.
Once you have successfully subscribed to a ListServe, regular e-mail from the ListServer arrives to you. Your first message from the Listserver will tell you the nature of the converstions on the ListServe, how to UNsubscribe, and other useful features. It is recommended that you always save this message for later reference.

EUonline presents this list for your consideration.

PUBtech. A Listserve designed for public radio engineers. Common technical concerns are discussed, opinions, knowledge and advice freely given. Similar to attending a PRC Engineering Dinner, without the food and doorprizes. Administered by Chuck Leavens (chuck@wduq.org) of WDUQ.
TO SUBSCRIBE: See http://pubtech.org for instructions.

PUBRADIO. The granddaddy of Public Radio Listserves, for all public radio staff. Topics range from engineering, sales, marketing, programming, and the conversation can be. . .lively.
TO SUBSCRIBE: See  http://pubradio.org for instructions.

<bdcstauto>. KWGS' (Tulsa) General Manager Frank Christel (frank-christel@utulsa.edu) describes his listserve this way: "<bdcstauto> is intended to complement PubRadio and PubTech. It differs by providing a forum for the discussion of automation-related topics (not just propeller-head stuff!) among users and prospective users in an environment where representatives from all interested manufacturers are invited to participate.

In other words, if you've had a difficult a time in getting timely answers to your questions from your favorite manufacturer, then maybe the fact that their product is getting dissed on this listserv will shame them intodefending their honor by participating. Conversely, challenge participants to help you design a system that meets your needs and budget. Learn the unvarnished truth of what works and what doesn't from those who have already invented the wheel.

Don't know automation from Ali Baba? Sign up! Want to discover a better way to rotate those pesky placed PSAs for PotatoFest while you've at lunch? Subscribe! Got a love-hate relationship with a certain company? If you promise to be civil, you're certainly welcome to join. A grizzled vet of solder-fumed RS-422 wars? Share your experiences! (spitoons are available)
Parallel threads covering issues of operation, traffic, staffing, software, hard disk recording/editing, purchase, and yes, engineering and installation are expected. Representatives from these companies are now being contacted to participate: Arrakis, Broadcast Electronics, Broadcast Tools, BSI (Wavecart), Cartworks, Computer Concepts, DHK Group (Audisk), DigiDesign,Enco, Harris, Pristine, Prophet Systems, Scott Studios (Electric Works).
Let me know which other companies should be invited. The name and e-mail address of responsive and 'net-literate reps would be especially helpful.

Here's to all who will take public radio into the next century!"
