Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog In Concert: ATP Festival 2011

October 5, 2011 Ceramic Dog inspired some spontaneous and spastic gyration in the Paramount Theatre seats.

Marc Ribot gets around. The New York City-based jazz guitarist has moved in and out of free jazz with the likes of John Zorn and appeared on key records by Tom Waits and Elvis Costello. Ribot has also explored Cuban music, and his most recent trio, Ceramic Dog, could almost be a link to his days in the skronk-jazz side of '80s No Wave. But that would do a serious disservice to this band's jam-heavy, rock-driven electro-freak-funk, which features bassist Shahzad Ismaily and drummer Ches Smith, both of the avant-rock band Secret Chiefs 3. On Saturday's Portishead-curated bill at All Tomorrow's Parties, Ceramic Dog took the crowd through the weirdness and inspired some spontaneous and spastic gyration in the Paramount Theatre seats.
