NPR presents a star-studded program of holiday jazz: four special programs featuring the very best from the Tanglewood Jazz Festival and the Count Basie centennial. Featured artists include singer Norah Jones, NPR's own Marian McPartland, pianist Eddie Palmieri, trumpeter Jon Faddis, saxophonist Bobby Watson and special guests perform at Tanglewood, Caramoor and the American Jazz Museum.
Norah and Marian at Tanglewood
Young superstar singer Norah Jones broke all attendance records at Tanglewood last summer with her live Piano Jazz session with host Marian McPartland in Seiji Ozawa Hall. Highlights include "Mean To Me" and Jones singing her original lyrics to Duke Ellington's "Melancholia."
Latin Jazz at Tanglewood
Brazilian-born pianist and composer Eliane Elias and pianist and bandleader Eddie Palmieri open the 2004 Tanglewood Jazz Festival. Elias' quartet and Palmieri's high-energy ten-piece ensemble, La Perfecta II, perform in Seiji Ozawa Hall, celebrating its tenth anniversary.
Basie Tribute at Caramoor (2 Hours)
From the Venetian Theatre on the grounds of the beautiful Caramoor Estate in Katonah, N.Y., a swinging celebration of the Count Basie centennial. Trumpeter Jon Faddis leads a special ensemble featuring Count Basie Orchestra veterans Benny Powell and Frank Foster.
Basie Tribute at The American Jazz Museum (2 Hours)
In 1927, Count Basie got stranded in Kansas City during a tour and jazz was never the same. K.C. jumps again at the American Jazz Museum when saxophonist Bobby Watson leads the museum's house big band with special guests Jay McShann, Clark Terry and Lisa Henry.
