U.S. Budget Deficit, Debt Compared With GDP

President Obama's budget outline released this week projects a $1.75 trillion deficit for the current year, rising to more than 12 percent of the nation's economic output, or gross domestic product. The public debt is projected to top 67 percent of GDP by 2019. Negative values of the deficit indicate a budget surplus.
