Auto Sales Decline Further In 2009

U.S. sales of General Motors cars and light trucks were off by 40 percent in the first half of this year, compared with the same period of 2008. GM, which emerged from bankruptcy July 10, had plenty of company. Other major automakers had similar declines this year, as consumers steered clear of new-car showrooms.
