Marines Launch Major Offensive In Southern Afghanistan

U.S. military officials say they have launched the largest Marine operation since the twin battles of Fallujah, Iraq in the spring and fall of 2004. More than 4,000 Marines and hundreds of British and Afghan forces will be taking part in the operation. During the past two years southern Afghanistan -- especially Helmand province, and adjoining Khandahar province -- have seen the greatest number of Taliban attacks.
