Reactions Around the US
Robert Siegel speaks with NPR's Ken Barcus in Shanksville, Pa., about the plane that crashed 80 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. Linda Wertheimer talks with NPR's Mandalit DelBarco about the reaction in Los Angeles, where two of the planes were supposed to be headed. NPR's Jackie Northam talks about that with Noah Adams about precautions taken in Chicago, where the Sears Tower was closed. Wertheimer talks with NPR's Philip Davis about reaction in Miami. And Mark Zedechlik of Minnesota Public Radio reports on action taken in the Twin Cities area, where the Mall of America was among the landmarks that were closed. NPR's Jennifer Ludden reports on demonstrations and praise for the terrorist attacks in Palestinian territory in the Middle East. Eyewitness Accounts, Washington Aftermath
A recap of what's known about the attacks is followed by some accounts from eyewitnesses. WNYC reporter Maryann McCune is at a triage center in New York City. Noah Adams talks with Robert Siegel about how things unfolded today in New York. And Linda Wertheimer talks with NPR's Steve Inskeep about the plane crash at the Pentagon. Adams talks with NPR's Barbara Bradley about the FBI investigation into the attacks in New York and Washington. Wertheimer tells us about the aftermath in Washington, where federal buildings and many other businesses were evacuated. Many people chose to walk rather than take the subway or drive.

Bush's Movements, Historical Perspective
President Bush was in Sarasota, Fla., and made a brief statement after the plane attacks on New York's World Trade Center. Shortly afterward, the plane attack on the Pentagon unfolded, and the president was flown to a secure location, NPR's White House Correspondent Don Gonyea reports. We also hear from eyewitnesses of the day's events. And Noah Adams turns to Columbia University Professor of American History Alan Brinkley to discuss the attacks from a historical perspective. They also discuss how some common assumptions -- about terrorism and about life in the United States -- are shaken by these attacks.
