Algiers

Neighborhood Description: Algiers is part of Orleans Parish originally founded as a plantation in the early 18th century. Algiers Point was designated a local historic district in 1994. It is home to many churches. Algiers also includes some of the best-preserved Creole cottages in New Orleans.

Damage After Katrina: Minimal. Algiers didn't flood, but it did lose utility services after the storm. Residents quickly returned after the hurricane, though some city officials said it would have been better to have waited until the utilities were reinstated.
