Australian Team Wins Three-Day Event
The homestanding Aussies took gold in the team competition of the three-day equestrian event at aptly named Horsely Park. Australian teammates Phillip Dutton, Andrew Hoy, Stuart Tinney and Matt Ryan held off a challenge from British riders Ian Stark, Jeanette Brakewell, Pippa Funnell and Leslie Law. The U.S. team captured the bronze behind a Virginia foursome of Nina Fout, Karen O'Connor, David O'Connor and Linden Wiesman.

Three-Day Event
Dressage, cross-country riding and show jumping are combined in a sort of triathlon for horse and rider. The winners have to match versatile riding skills with a horse capable of speed, power and delicacy.
European and U.S. riders generally do well in the three-day, but Australia and New Zealand have lately risen to excellence.

The three-day event -- team and individual -- runs from September 16 to September 22 at the Equestrian Center at Horsley Park.
